Preparing for a baby

There are so many articles and adverts out there showing or telling you how to prepare for a new baby as parents. Some of these include, the latest pram, cot, baby bath, or an all singing all dancing baby bouncer.

What would you say if I told you that none of those things really matter!?

The best way to prepare for a baby is to focus on you and your partner. Throw yourselves
into understanding the labour and birth process by booking onto evidence based antenatal classes or hypnobirthing. If you are working full time there are still wonderful positive birth books out there to read (ask me for a list of titles) If you would like to breastfeed, attend a local breastfeeding support group or an IBCLC while you are pregnant. Find pregnancy yoga sessions, a reflexologist or aquanatal classes that will relax your mind and body as well as prepare you for birth and motherhood. Prepare yourselves as well as you can before baby arrives.

The only thing your baby truly needs is YOU! Parents who feel prepared, calm and confident. This isn’t me saying that parenthood will be a doddle if you prepare, but it won’t feel so overwhelming if you understand how much change a newborn brings to your life. Yes, those shopping items may come in handy later on, but when it comes down to it……all your baby needs is food, warmth, security and plenty of love!
